Early Days: The village started in 1818 when Thomas Smith built a cabin on Portage Road. The village was officially laid out in 1831, but they had to try again in 1836 because of low ground.
Growing Up: The first store popped up in 1818, and the current village got its first store in 1837. The village kept growing with more buildings and the first sawmill by Thomas Smith.

Pioneer Village: Run by the Smithville Community Historical Society, this place shows off what life was like from 1830 to 1890. It’s a cool way to see how early Americans lived.
Mishler Mill: This old mill on East Main Street gives you a look at the village's industrial past. It’s open for visits on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 4:00 PM.
Old Log Cabins: Smithville has several historic log cabins that show you how the early settlers lived.

The Barn Restaurant: Located at 877 W Main St, this restaurant serves American dishes like burgers and steaks. They have an “Old Time Salad Wagon” with over 30 items. The restaurant is in a remodeled old barn, making it cozy and country-style.
Carpenter’s Cafe: Also known as The Carpenter’s Cup, at 116 W Main St. They offer gourmet coffee, signature drinks, and original pastries. They also have unique charcuterie boards and furniture.
