Behind the Curtain: Cinematographer Tom Bergmann

Go Behind the Curtain with award-winning cinematographer Tom Bergmann and discover what it takes to tell a powerful story through film. Drawing on more than 20 years of documentary work around the globe, Tom will share clips from his films and explore storytelling, visual language, and the trust that develops between filmmakers and the people whose stories they tell.

Participants will get an inside look at the cinematographer’s role, how directors and camera crews work together, and those “magical moments” when a filmmaker becomes part of what is happening while remaining nearly invisible. With more than 60 film credits—including three films nominated for Academy Awards—Tom brings an extraordinary range of real-world experience to this interactive workshop.

Behind the Curtain is a new collaboration between Wayne Center for the Arts and The Lyric Theater, connecting our community with visiting professional artists and filmmakers through special workshops and learning experiences. The program is made possible with support from the Wayne County Community Youth Foundation.

Tom will also be at The Lyric to present two of his films: The Cowboy on Friday, October 23, and The Disrupted on Saturday, October 24.
