Who doesn’t love good ice cream? 

Wayne County is full of great local ice cream stops and we have created the perfect list of 17 stops  that are sure to cure anyone's sweet tooth! 

Wooster 

Of all our stops throughout Wayne County, Wooster has the most ice cream locations with a total of 5!  

  • Dari-land, is always a fun stop whether for ice cream, milkshakes or a bite to eat. They also has a delicious dole-whip that will make summer seem even closer than it is. With a great menu and lots to choose from, however don’t forget to bring cash, this location does not take cards or checks.
  • Orr Valley Creamery, was formerly known as the Guerne Heights Drive In,  is a crowd favorite in the area. Whether it’s the 3rd flavor, which is the weekly additional flavor besides vanilla and chocolate, family feel, or fun atmosphere. When you're stopping here you are sure to have great food and friendly service! 
  • Hartzler Dairy is the classic ice cream shop. Hartzler's has been around since the 1950’s and the store was actually the original milk processing plant! If you haven't had Hartzler's milk, you're missing out. They have some of the creamiest milk which then makes the creamiest ice cream. With flavors like heifer trails, chicken feed, hot mud, and trip to the dentist, you're sure to find something you'll enjoy! Make sure you grab a cone and a bottle of milk to take home. 
  • One of the newer members of the ice cream scene in Wayne county is Scoops Sweet-Treats and More, just outside of Wooster. This shop has a variety of fun treats such as malts, sundaes and ice cream floats. If you are not in the mood for something cold, grab a hot dog, burger, or soft pretzel to cure that hanger. 
  • The Cottage at Lionsgate is in a unique building with a beautiful outdoor patio. Locally they are known for their pizza and subs. But do not let that fool you into thinking they do not know ice cream. Grab a variety of hand dipped cones, opt for a milkshake or treat yourself with a chocolate dipped cone with nuts!

Smithville 

  • Smithville Dari-land gives that hometown feel, nestled in smithville you feel like a local when you dip in for a treat. The owners are the same from the Wooster location, so stop in at each and check out the different options available. 
  • The Oak Cupboard is another unique stop. This shop you will find some items in bulk such as baking supplies, candies, and other treats both savory and sweet. They also have some home decor, and unique kitchen tools. If you're looking for a fun place to check out with the whole family while grabbing your ice cream add this to your road trip list. 

Orrville 

  • Orr Valley Creamery is a local ice cream shop that serves creamy custard, premium ice cream and more! As the leading authority on ice cream in Orrville, they know a thing or two about custard. 

Fredericksburg 

  • Looking for dinner and ice cream? Lem’s Pizza is an excellent stop to satisfy both! This neat pizzeria will have everyone in the family or friend group smiling. Located in the quaint square of Fredericksburg, you can imagine eating a slice of pie and watching the horse and buggies pass through town. 
  • Salt Creek Cafe serving the beloved Yoder’s Southern Creamery ice cream of 12 flavors of hand-dipped available through the drive thru (window walk ups welcome!). Salt Creek Cafe is not just an ice cream stop, it also has a full cafe, bakery, and coffee shop onsight. This location is right across from Lem’s Pizza, so mix and match the two for a fun dining experience. 

Apple Creek

  • A classic stop on route 250 is The Golden Bear.The Golden bear is your typical drive in; comfort food and ice cream,but man does it make you feel like home every time you stop in. Try a sweet treat on your next road trip across Wayne County, Ohio. 

Dalton 

  • Dalton is home to the Dalton Dari-ette, and when we tell you this is a local hot spot, we mean just that. The dari-ette has been around since 1957 and has barely changed  since. The Dari-ette is known for many of its treats such as cones, milkshakes, sundaes and a few other local favorites.  Each week the menu changes slightly with the new addition of a lunch/dinner item for the week giving you even more of an excuse to visit week after week. Stop in for a touch of nostalgia and a tasty treat!

Shreve 

  • Shreve Dari- Bar is an excellent stop for a meal and a sweet treat. The Dari-Bar has a variety of soft serve cones and sundaes, but also menu items such as burgers and chicken fingers. If you want to order like a local, ask for either a Cow Chip or Cow Patty sandwich. Cow Chip- ice cream sandwich with Ruggles Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. Cow Patty- Ice cream sandwich with creamy soft serve vanilla. 
  • Village Creamery and Grill just opened the summer of 2024. The Village Creamery & Grill isn't just a place to get delicious ice cream and food; it's a place where the community comes together. Village Creamery  is proud to serve Holmes County's own Velvet-View Farms ice cream. This isn't your average ice cream – it's made with fresh milk from cows raised right here in Big Prairie, Ohio. In fact, the ice cream is crafted less than 30 feet away from where the cows are milked! Velvet-View Farms is a family-owned operation that has been delighting ice cream lovers since 1948. Currently run by 5th generation dairy farmers, the Schlauch family milks about 30 Holsteins on their 200-acre farm in the rolling hills of Holmes County. Velvet-View Farms holds the distinction of being the oldest farmstead creamery in Ohio, and their commitment to quality and tradition shines through in every scoop. 

Creston 

  • Creston is home to a welcoming shop called Gasser’s Marketplace. The Gasser family runs a dairy farm in Creston, Ohio. Together they have begun the adventure of this bulk food store. Gasser’s is home to a variety of treats, as well as bulk food and lunch/ dinner items! Shop the different types of candy, savory treats, baking ingredients, snacks in the isles. Inside this family run store you will find a soft serve ice cream machine churning away, which makes stocking the pantry a little more exciting! 

Doylestown 

  •  Doc’s Sweet Shop sits close to the square in Doylestown. The walkup style parlor has a variety of treats such as slushies, cones, razzles and a few other unique treats you can only find at this stop, which keeps the local community coming back year after year.  The long lines of kids, teens, and parents are worth it when you take that first bite of your Big Wheel or strawberry pretzel sundae.
