WELCOME TO WAYNE COUNTY

The rural charm of Wayne County's rolling hills, lush woods, and scenic farmland is only the beginning of the offerings available to visitors and residents.

Wayne County is home to one of the largest Amish populations in the United States. Wayne and the surrounding counties to the south and west ( Holmes, Tuscarawas, and part of Stark)  are home to this culture who choose to live a more simple life. Famous for their beautiful quilts, high-quality craftsmanship, simple clothing, horse drawn buggies and comfort food of days of the past this culture the Amish are just part of the life here. Plan to explore the shops, restaurants, and farms dotted along the county. Make sure to grab a few goodies to take back with you.

Aside from our strong Agriculture and Amish lifestyle, what you may not know is that Wayne County has numerous world-renowned companies who call us home including The J.M. Smucker Company, Wooster Brush Company, Morton Salt, Daisy Brands and Certified Angus Beef. These companies have grown to be household names across the world, and we are thankful for their support in our community. So make sure to look for these local companies and more as you are venturing for that next meal.

Looking to brush up on your academics while on your next getaway? Wayne County has 10 local historical societies rich with local history covering Agriculture and History from the past. The Buckeye Ag Museum is a one of a kind stop, showcasing how hand hewn beams were constructed and farming equipment through the decades. Pair the stop with a shopping trip to Lehman's Hardware and you may feel inspired to pick up a new hobby.

Maybe you are looking at colleges with those undecided teenagers and need some inspiration on where to start. Wayne is the home of 3 major colleges; The College of Wooster, University of Akron Wayne College, and The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute (ATI)The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). We would not say we are a College town, but our diverse campuses allow for the culture and experiences to grow with each new class. The food scene is always changing, artists are blooming everywhere, and can we talk about how high tech the farming community has become in the last 10 years! Getting a great education we know as parents is only part of what you are looking at, so why not plan a weekend to explore why you should add these colleges to your short list.
